Vehicle assistance services provide help in case if the vehicle covered by the services becomes inoperable due to mechanical problems or accidents.
Vehicle insurance (vehicle third partly liability insurance, the different Casco overages) guarantees the subsequent reimbursement for certain costs, losses and damages. They do not relieve, however, the owner or the operator of the vehicle from taking the necessary measures (having the car towed, choosing the service shop etc.), settling insurance issues, filing for claim settlement, and from the prompt payment of bills, nor do they help in avoiding time losses.
The main advantage of assistance, on the other hand is, that you can rely on the assistance provider just like on a friend of yours with the appropriate expertise, who can help in every situation. Should any problem arise anywhere within the given territory, it is the main task of the provider to help you in finding an appropriate and acceptable solution which minimizes your losses.
Assistance services include: securing on the spot repairs or selecting a subcontractor who shall be towing the vehicle, negotiating the details of performance with the subcontractor, ordering the subcontractor’s service, supervising the conduct of the subcontractor (e.g. arriving on time to the premises, the quality of the performance, towing the vehicle to a car repair shop on time etc.) and paying the subcontractor without you having the need to participate. Other services might be chosen so as you are provided with the service that best suits your actual needs: travel to home, continue the trip, accommodation, replacement car.
The objective of these services is to ensure that even if you face certain problems, you can still continue your trip as soon as possible, without having to advance the costs and losing a substantial amount of time.
Since there will be no costs for you arising on the spot, and the services mostly are provided free of charge (depending on the service package purchased) , you will be relieved from the inconveniences associated with the administration and the waiting period – at least relative to the assistance services. You can get further help in selecting the repair shop and potentially in ordering the repair works, as well as in the investigation of the damaged vehicle.

In case of purchasing a new vehicle – from the manufacturer
Brand- assistance is a mechanical assistance program provided by the manufacturer during the warranty term. Most of brand manufactures have already introduced their assistance services in Hungary as well. These however – almost without an exception – might be exclusively available in case of mechanical problems that are covered by warranty and only during the warranty period. Thus, all mechanical problems that are not covered by the warranty are excluded from the scope of the assistance services, as well as the problems, which are caused by accidents. This service is usually provided to the new vehicle owner free of charge up till the car reaching its first year, and can be extended subsequently. Extension, however, might only be obtained together with the extension of the manufacturer’s warranty obligation (covering mechanical problems) which may result in substantial extra costs.
In case of concluding Casco insurance – from the insurance company
Certain insurance companies offer vehicle assistance products. Those are usually sold together with one of the vehicle insurance products of the given insurers (such as vehicle third party liability insurance or Casco insurance). The range of the products is wide regarding restrictions too. Certain products are applicable exclusively for accidents while others are exclusively for mechanical problems. It is also usual that the service amounts are limited; the insurance only pays up to a certain amount, regardless of the actual costs. It is common with insurance companies that although they sell insurance coverage for a year, the assistance service can only be utilized once a year.
